Simon (Mitchell Lichtenstein) and Wei-Tung (Winston Chao) are a gay couple living in New York in Ang Lee’s The Wedding Banquet (Hsi yen) (1993). Wei-Tung’s parents in Taiwan are pressuring him to get married. When the guys conspire to get Wei-Tung married to please them, the parents complicate things by coming to visit.

1987’s Maurice presents James Wilby as the title character in this adaptation of E.M. Forster’s novel. In Edwardian England, Maurice falls for Hugh Grant’s Clive Durham. Clive decides his position in society if more important and dumps him. Maurice then moves on to fall in love with the gamekeeper (Rupert Graves).

Bulgarian Lovers follows Daniel (Fernando Guillén Cuervo) a Spanish businessman who hooks up with a Bulgarian immigrant Kyril (Dritan Biba). Daniel is drawn into Kyril’s shady life as he falls for the erratic younger man.
Under One Roof tells the tale of Daniel, a Chinese-American gay man (Jay Wong) who lives with his mother (who’s studiously ingnoring his protests that he’s not going to get married and give her grandkids). They rent out their basement room to Robert, a young caucasion guy (James Marks) who Daniel starts to find attractive. While Daniel is away, the sewer pipes break downstairs and mom moves Robert into Daniel’s room. Has a few funny moments.
Alexis Arquette is a gay artist in Never Met Picasso. His uncle (Alvin Epstein) is also a gay artist, the love of whose life went off to war many years ago. Then there’s his actress mother (Margot Kidder) who has a lesbian affair. This was watchable, but I really didn’t take much away from it.
